Steven Spielberg has expressed his deep admiration for Denis Villeneuve’s work on the film adaptation of the “Dune” universe.

In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Spielberg stated that “Dune: Part Two” is “the best film Denis has ever made,” highlighting his appreciation for the saga and his anticipation for the release of “Dune: Part Three,” scheduled for December 18 of this year.

A saga that has him fascinated: the third part will be out very soon

The iconic filmmaker, known for masterpieces like “E.T.” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” has repeatedly praised Villeneuve, considering him a “world builder,” comparing him to other great directors like Peter Jackson, James Cameron, and Guillermo del Toro.

Spielberg also stated that Villeneuve’s dedication to honoring Frank Herbert’s novels is comparable to the tribute that Guillermo del Toro pays to Mary Shelley with “Frankenstein.” “I love the Dune books, and I think his tribute to the novels is similar to Guillermo’s,” he expressed.

In addition, the director was very clear in expressing his satisfaction with the recent success of the horror genre, specifically mentioning “Weapons,” one of the most acclaimed films of 2025. Spielberg revealed that when watching such impactful films, his desire to create his own horror work is tempered by the achievement that these stories represent.

Currently, Spielberg is preparing to return to his roots in science fiction with “Disclosure Day,” which will premiere on June 12. Subsequently, he plans to make a large-scale western, an unexpected twist in his illustrious career. With each new project, Spielberg continues to demonstrate his commitment to the art of cinema and his ability to draw inspiration from the creations of his peers.
