Forge of the Fae gets a free Steam demo: JRPG meets Celtic steampunk

Forge of the Fae now has a free demo on Steam, so you can jump in right away and see what this Celtic-inspired JRPG is doing. The pitch lands somewhere between Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, with a bit of The Legend of Zelda and Stardew Valley in the mix. As indie RPGs go, Forge of the Fae catches the eye fast, thanks to its polished pixel art and a steampunk setting drawn from 1800s Ireland. You play as a young inventor named Fiora, moving through rising fae-human tensions and a string of strange disappearances, with story choices that help steer where things go.

Datadyne LLC says the combat is built around the ARC Crystal System, which lets players customize spells and abilities, along with an Adrenaline mechanic. And going by early player reactions, people aren’t just showing up for the retro vibe. A lot of the praise so far has gone to the visuals and the combat itself.

If retro RPGs, Celtic folklore, and steampunk stories are your thing, this demo looks like an easy one to pick up. Forge of the Fae’s Kickstarter campaign says the game raised $226,782 from a $15,000 goal. It’s being published by Deck13 and, according to Datadyne LLC, the full release is planned for 2027 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

You can download the free Forge of the Fae demo on Steam now.
