Fortnite Season 8 is finally here, and with it comes the first week of challenges. This week’s challenge set includes a huge variety of tasks, from hunting down some rather large faces to a few harder weapon-based challenges. Check out our guide to see how to ace them all and grab yourself some Battle Stars.
Fortnite: Season 8 Week 1 Challenge Guide
Visit all Pirate Camps (7)
Pirate camps are a new addition to Season 8. What you’re looking for are ramshackle looking towers and huts built atop existing structures. Look for the pirate flag flying atop them to spot the camps from a distance. To finish this challenge, you’ll need to visit all 7 camps. Check out the map below for their exact locations:
Search Chests at Retail Row or Junk Junction (7)
A simple chest searching challenge, simply loot 7 chests at either Junk Junction or Retail Row to mark this one off. We recommend Junk Junction, as it tends to get less traffic than the more popular Retail Row.
Weapon Damage Challenges
This tiered challenge tasks you with doing damage with a series of different weapons. As with other weapon based challenges, we recommend completing these in a match of Team Rumble. You can respawn and the matches are long, which should allow you to mark these challenges off over the course of a single match. Here are the stages:
- Stage 1: Deal damage with a shotgun and an explosive weapon in a single match.
- Stage 2: Deal damage with a pistol and an assault rifle in a single match.
- Stage 3: Deal damage with a submachine gun and a sniper rifle in a single match.

It’s time for a scavenger hunt. The map above details the locations of the “faces” that you’re looking for. As with all treasure maps, X marks the spot, so check out these specific locations.
The desert face should be familiar to most players, as it was featured in a few Season 7 challenges. You’ll need to either land atop or approach the face to mark it as “visited.”
This snowy face is rather grumpy, and located near the southern edges of the map.
A new addition to the trio, you can find the jungle face just east of the new Sunny Steps area, marked into the side of a small hill.
Use a Volcano Vent in different matches (5)
Volcano vents are another new Season 8 addition. They function just like jump pads; walking over one will send you flying skyward. You’ll need to use a volcano vent in five separate matches to complete the challenge.
Get an elimination with a shotgun, assault rifle and explosive weapon
Just like it says on the package, use the specified weapons to eliminate other players. As with other weapon challenges, this one should be easy to complete in a match of Team Rumble.
Deal damage to a vehicle driven by an opponent (200)
This challenge is probably the trickiest of the week, as vehicles have gotten a bit scarce with the advent of Season 8. Stormwings are no more, so you’ll likely find yourself taking potshots at Driftboards. These are easily the most common vehicles, but you’ll have to destroy a few to finish the challenge. It might take a while to complete, so stay sharp and keep an ear out for engine noises.
Week 1 Loading Screen Challenge
Completing all Week 1 challenges will unlock the first loading screen scavenger hunt. Taking a close look at this piratical loading screen will reveal the week’s hidden Battle Star hidden in the background.
Take a trip over to Lazy Lagoon and head atop the tower at the center of town to claim the star.
As always, check back with Softonic for weekly challenge updates as the Season progresses. Happy hunting, mateys!
