PlaySide Studios has pushed Game of Thrones: War for Westeros back from 2026 to early 2027. The Australia-based developer shared the delay in the first major update on the PC strategy game since its reveal at Summer Game Fest 2025.
The studio says it needs the extra time to raise the overall quality bar for what it sees as a premium PC RTS, not a mobile tie-in or a free-to-play spin-off. This is the first substantial update since Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025. PlaySide says players can expect squad-based tactical combat, responsive units, and battles with more weight behind them, built for strategy fans as much as for people who just want to fight through Westeros. Four factions are planned for launch: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King’s Army of the Dead.
The same update also points to heroes like Jon Snow and Tywin Lannister leveling up, unlocking abilities, and boosting nearby troops across maps that include King’s Landing, The Wall, and the 1v1 battleground Ashemark. If the choice is between a polished licensed RTS and one that ships too early, the longer wait is easier to swallow.
The game is still headed to PC from Australia-based PlaySide Studios, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment publishing on behalf of HBO.
