Genesis G70 gets a 2026 warning from Consumer Reports: BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CT5 are recommended instead
Small trunk and weak fuel economy hurt daily usability

For 2026, Consumer Reports puts the Genesis G70 among the luxury compact sedans to pass on, and sends shoppers toward the BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CT5 instead.
What hurts the G70 isn’t its styling or the way it performs. It’s the everyday stuff. Trunk space is just 10.5 cubic feet, versus 11.9 in the Cadillac CT5 and roughly 16.9 to 17 in the BMW 3 Series, and that gap shows up quickly when you’re loading weekend luggage, a stroller, or a couple of suitcases. Fuel economy is another weak spot: the 2.5-liter turbo RWD is rated at 21/29 mpg, the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 RWD drops to 17/25 mpg, and some BMW 3 Series versions can reach 31 mpg combined.
If you want a luxury sedan that feels more complete, the BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CT5 make a stronger case. You get more usable cargo room and, in many trims, better efficiency. The BMW 3 Series still delivers that benchmark blend of performance, comfort, and daily usability, while the Cadillac CT5 comes across as the roomier, more practical option.
The Genesis G70 still has plenty of fans. Kelley Blue Book and MotorTrend have praised its handling, engines, and value, and some buyers will still be sold on the G70’s styling, performance, and features. But the same complaints keep coming up: limited rear-seat space, a small trunk, and reliability concerns, all while SUVs and EVs keep raising expectations for practicality.
You’ll find the Genesis G70, BMW 3 Series, and Cadillac CT5 in the 2026 luxury compact sedan market.
