Kicks Online characterPlaying football on a roof or in an abandoned factory might sound a bit weird but that’s exactly what you get in Kicks Online – a free-to-play football MMOG (Massively Multi-player Online Game). Since its launch in July 2006, the Korean developers Entermate claim it now has over 300,000 registered users and I’m not surprised. This is a great game which features some stunning graphics, superb gameplay and provides a fun alternative to the football (or soccer depending on which side of the pond you’re from) genre.

Kicks Online is basically a street football simulator and involves a lot more pushing, fighting and general rough and tumble than normal football. Examples include headbutting (Zinedine Zidane eat your heart out), karate kicking and punching your opponents. You can play on various surfaces from concrete to grass and what’s more, the better you play, the stronger your player’s skill rating becomes. Matches can be played 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 and are set in urban or industrial settings. The graphics and overall playability are outstanding the only drawback being that there can be a serious lag when playing against online opponents. To get a better idea of what it’s all about (and to see some dude worshipping a Korean flag at the end of a game) check out the video.
