Illfonic has caused a stir with its announcement that it will be releasing Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed on PC and console later this year. You may recognize the developer’s name from a familiar title, Predator: Hunting Grounds. It seems as if it will be bringing the same type of gameplay, with four players facing off against one.

While this type of social gaming has been around for some time, we only saw a focus on the genre when Among Us become popular. Fortnite soon incorporated the same elements, but we’ve enjoyed other titles that let you hunt down players. Some examples include Friday the 13th, Dead by Daylight, and Murderous Pursuits.

From what we’ve seen so far, it seems there’s a slight turning of the tables in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Instead of one player hunting the others, you’ll have four characters searching for the ghost. You may recognize the main characters from the original movies, but there will be a few new faces.

In this light, it’s similar to Call of Duty’s prop hunt mode in several of its latest games, except you’ll be hunting a ghost and not props. We’re not sure how much of a story Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will have, as the main focus will be on the multiplayer component. It seems Illfonic will be doing what it does best, just with a different brand.

Until we get more details, you can check out the official trailer for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleased below. What we like so far is that you can place AI bots in any empty slots if there aren’t enough online players.
