Ridley Scott is a unique director. He is the creator of franchises such as Alien or Blade Runner, and now he is back with one of the films that has given him the most joy: Gladiator. After releasing Napoleon, the biopic of the conqueror played by Joaquin Phoenix, Scott will release Gladiator 2, a sequel to the 2000 film starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. The curious thing is that it has not yet finished shooting and has already set a record.

According to the Times of Malta, the government of Malta, where the film is being shot, has granted Gladiator 2 a $160 million deduction, which is equivalent to a large part of its budget. This initiative comes from the Malta Film Commission, and is due to European Union support for the jobs the film will create.

This is the highest amount ever given to a foreign film shot in Europe, and therefore it is already a great record that will surely help the film to perform well. Even if the feature film did not perform very well at the box office, thanks to this type of aid, it will ensure that it will not make a loss.

What is Gladiator 2 about?

This time, the story of Gladiator 2 focuses on Lucius, Commodus’ nephew. Lucius was marked by the sacrifice of Maximus Decimus Meridius in the original film, but in this film he will have to live his own story. Lucius is second in line to the throne, and in the first film the actor who played him was Spencer Treat Clark.

In this new story, we will most likely see how Lucio has evolved and what path he has taken after such a disrupted youth as the one he has had to live. Undoubtedly, there are many paths to take, but they all look very interesting.
