Good news for fans of 'Edge of Tomorrow': they are already casting stars for its sequel

Come on, a lot has happened in the last ten years, right? A pandemic, the rise and fall of Marvel, the world going to hell on several fronts… and all this time, Edge of Tomorrow 2 has remained announced, but without moving an inch in its production. Tom Cruise wants to make it, Emily Blunt wants to make it, the studio wants to make it, the audience wants them to make it. So, can someone tell me what they are waiting for?

On the Edge of Retirement

Now that Tom Cruise has finished with his Mission: Impossible films and has returned to making other types of movies (the first, Digger, this year) perhaps it is finally time to film Edge of Tomorrow 2. For now, what Hollywood insiders are saying is that alongside the two mega-stars, Charlize Theron will also be in a role that no one knows yet.

But that’s not all: in addition, Blunt recently stated that it all depends on the schedules of those involved, but he hopes that sooner or later we can see this second part. Cruise is already 63 years old, so he doesn’t have much leeway to continue starring in action movies without suffering from the Sylvester Stallone syndrome (that is: being clearly too old for the role).

Blunt explained it this way: “Doug Liman and I constantly talk about it, and I know Tom wants to do it at some point. So it depends on our schedules, but it has also been ten years since we did it. There was an incredible script, but I think it would have only worked if we had shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that old, but the fact that ten years have passed is a factor. Honestly, I wouldn’t bet on seeing it. Just in case, to avoid losing money, you know.
