Google Reader logoGoogle Reader is one of the most powerful search tools out there but ironically, one thing you couldn’t do until now was search the blogs or sites that you are subscribed to. That’s all changed however with the announcement that they’ve added a simple search box at the top of Google Reader which enables you to search for key words within your subscribed sites. So now, if you want to recover that interesting article Google Reader found for you a few weeks ago, you can use the search box instead of scrolling through your items. You can search all items at once, those that are starred or shared, or just items from a specific blog or site.

This is something that should have come by default in the original release and considering that Google are the king of search engines, it’s a mystery why it’s taken so long. There are also a few other tweaks to Google Reader including the option to hide the side navigation bar, unread counts now go to 1,000 and there are new forward and back buttons that move between folders and subscriptions that you’ve navigated to.
