Google Gemini app for Windows is out now: Alt + Space opens it

Google released Gemini as a dedicated Windows app on September 10, 2026, giving Windows 10 and Windows 11 users a native way to use it without leaving a browser tab open all day. The app went live that same day. Google describes it as lightweight and unobtrusive: it sits in the background, opens with Alt + Space, and lets you ask questions, summarize files, or get help while you’re in the middle of something else. It also hooks into Gmail and Google Drive, so it can pull in context, summarize documents, and help with longer-running projects.

Google is rolling out Gemini Spark for multi-step tasks, Nano Banana for image creation, and Gemini Omni for video generation too. Some of those tools, Google says, are limited to paid Google plans. The Windows release also comes a few months after the macOS app, which arrived in April 2026, as Google keeps moving Gemini further onto the desktop.

If you already spend most of your time inside Google’s ecosystem, this is probably an update you’ll want to install. Early reactions haven’t all gone in the same direction, though. The Alt + Space shortcut is fast, and people will like that. But you still can’t directly manage your inbox or organize files on your PC, and Google says more features are on the way.

Google says the Gemini app for Windows is available now for PCs running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
