Users have reported a new all-white layout and new preview screen on Google Image search results

Google is keeping quiet on a design overhaul for Google Image search results. A number of users have spotted the new design and taken their findings to Twitter. Google Image search is more powerful than ever, and the new leaks seem to indicate mostly aesthetic changes.

We already have themed bubbles across the top of Image search results’ pages, which offer a powerful tool for finding exactly what you’re after. You can now search for something as normal, and then add various filters to the search results to hone in further on the precise image you want to find.

The new design overhaul, as reported across Twitter, indicates a change to the preview box. At the moment, whenever you click on a particular image from the search results the preview is shown in a black box on the left-hand side of the page. The preview remains static, so if you scroll up or down the preview will remain where it is in the search results, leaving the screen either at the top or the bottom depending on which way you scroll.

The new leaked design shows the preview box in white and on the right-hand side of the search results page. All the buttons from the black preview box remain, but the biggest change is that the preview box becomes separate from the rest of the page. Scrolling up or down only moves the rest of the search results while the preview box stays where it is.

As yet, Google hasn’t made any official comment about this redesign of the Google Image search results page so we can’t say for sure whether it will get a wider roll-out. We could just be seeing a small test from the search giant. We’ll just have to wait and see.
