If you’ve ever taken the effort to get to your transit stop on time only to discover there’s been a delay or even a cancellation, Google has some good news for you.

As of this week, Google Maps web app and Android mobile app users in four US and two European cities can now find out about transit updates as they happen. Launch cities in the US include Boston, Portland (Oregon), San Diego and San Francisco. Madrid, Spain and Turin, Italy were chosen as launch cities in Europe.

Google implemented this by partnering with transit agencies in these six cities. By integrating live transit data, users will now be able to know when their public transportation is supposed to arrive at a given day and time, as opposed to just relying on a printed (and sometimes incorrect) schedule. This new feature will inform you of whether there are any delays or special alerts related to your transportation of choice. It’ll also give you the ability to see live departure times and service alerts.

There you have it.  No more excuses for being late to work ever again!
