After Google’s acquisition of the Waze mapping app back in June of this year, the company has finally begun integrating Waze’s services into its own Maps app for mobile. Starting today, iOS and Android users will notice new traffic alerts in the Google Maps app. Traffic alerts from Waze are labeled, “via Waze.” This features user submitted information about traffic accidents, roadworks, and more.
Waze fans shouldn’t be worried (yet) about Google killing of the app and service as Google has integrated Street View and Search into the Waze. Google Search integration into Waze means more local search results for businesses and other local addresses. The Waze Map Editor has been updated to include Google Street View, though it has not been integrated into the Waze mobile apps yet. Google hopes to make it “easier to correct map errors reported by the community” with the integration of Street View into Google Maps.
