Google Meet gets Gemini note-taking for in-person meetings

Google Meet now lets Gemini take notes during in-person meetings, not just calls where everyone joins separately. Google says the rollout starts on Android on August 11, reaches the web on August 14, and comes to iPhone and iPad no earlier than August 31. You can start note-taking in Google Meet on the web or on mobile even if everyone’s sitting in the same room. When the meeting ends, Meet creates a new Google Doc with the main points, action items , and the full transcript, saves it to Google Drive, and emails you a link.

If you already use Google Meet’s note tools, the setup should look familiar. Google says this feature uses the same admin notes settings already in place. It’s available on Google Workspace Business Standard and Business Plus, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, Frontline Plus, and Google’s consumer Pro and Ultra plans.

For teams that already run meetings in Google Workspace, this has a pretty clear appeal. It turns a discussion into something you can actually use afterward, lines up with the broader move from Zoom and Microsoft Teams toward smarter meeting assistants, and could also help on the accessibility side. Still, there are trade-offs to think through, especially privacy concerns, the cost of a paid plan, and the usual ecosystem lock-in.
