Google has decided to take out the scissors once again while focusing on Google Assistant. In this case, the company has decided to remove some features from its assistant to make it more accessible and user-friendly in general.

Specifically, there will be 17 features that will be discontinued starting from February 26th. On the other hand, on January 26th Google will begin notifying its users about the permanent removal of these functions.

As we can read on the official Google blog, this “restructuring” will mainly affect mobile phones, watches, smart speakers, and smart displays. Below, we list everything that Google Assistant will no longer do:

  • Play and control Google Play Books audiobooks with our voice. However, it will allow us to play audiobooks from our mobile device.
  • Set up multimedia, music, or radio alarms on devices with Google Assistant. Alternatively, you can create a custom Routine that does practically the same thing.
  • Access or manage your recipe book, transfer recipes between devices, play videos, or display step-by-step recipes.
  • Manage timers on Smart Displays and speakers. However, you can still program your alarms and timers.
  • Use your voice to call another device or send a message to the family group.
  • You also won’t be able to send emails, videos, or audios with your voice. Now, Google Assistant will only let you make calls and send text messages.
  • Reorganize events on your calendar.
  • Use App Launcher in Google Assistant’s Driving Mode within Google Maps to send messages, make calls, and control multimedia content.
  • Schedule announcements related to the Family Bell.
  • Meditate with Calm.
  • Voice control of physical activities on Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 devices.
  • Check your sleep summaries. It will only be available on Google Smart Displays.
  • Calls made from speakers and Smart Displays will not display their information (unless you use Duo).
  • See estimated travel times to work on Smart Displays.
  • Check travel itineraries.
  • Ask for information about your contacts.
  • Ask to send payments, make reservations, or post on social media.

Did you use any of these commands with Google Assistant?
