Anticipation is rising for the return of one of the most beloved classics of European RPGs. Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic have announced that the remake of Gothic, the iconic title from Piranha Bytes, will arrive on June 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with no exclusives, meaning it will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
A game rebuilt from scratch
Far from being just a facelift, Gothic Remake has been rebuilt from the ground up. The Alkimia team aims to respect the structure and design of the original game while adapting it to current standards. The story is set in the tumultuous world of the penal colony of the kingdom of Myrtana, where the intensive exploitation of a magical mineral has resulted in the mass imprisonment of prisoners, creating an environment dominated by rival factions and led by inmates.
In this context, the protagonist, known as the Nameless Hero, will trigger events that will change the fate of this brutal prison. The narrative background also highlights the management of King Rhobar II in the extraction of the ore to face an orc invasion, which creates even greater chaos when the spell meant to seal the colony fails.
While the remake retains the key elements that made the original a success, such as unrestricted exploration and the freedom to solve situations, it also introduces significant improvements. This includes more extensive missions and NPCs with more complex routines, adding depth to the player experience. Additionally, the game takes inspiration from the narrative structure of The Witcher 3 to enhance the fluidity of progress, offering over 50 hours of content that evolves independently of the player.
With these innovations, Gothic Remake promises to bring nostalgia to fans of the franchise while attracting a new generation of players to the dark and complex depths of this captivating world.
