‘Hacks’ will have a surprise epilogue, but only a privileged few will be able to see it

I can’t get over the ending of Hacks, and I don’t think any fan can, really. Ava and Deborah went out on a high, with a final episode that ascends to the pantheon of shows that managed to end well and true to themselves. And, although many of us were left waiting for a spin-off, the truth is that we made our peace with not seeing them again. Until they dangled that little tease in front of us.

One more night, uo-oh

Right in the middle of Emmy voting (naturally, there was a catch), Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder will be Deborah and Ava again for one last night, in person and live from the theater. It will be at the Florida Theatre in Hollywood, where the cast and crew have set up one last goodbye for a night when, of course, all the tickets have already sold out almost instantly.

Deborah Vance & Friends & Enemies Live! will take place this Friday, will last an hour, and fans will be able to grab drinks, pizza, pretzels, and popcorn before the show starts. Even if it seems like an extravagance and an absurd effort, it makes perfect sense, because Hacks could make history thanks to Smart’s possible fifth win in the Best Actress category, something no woman has ever achieved. She deserves it and, in fact, it’d be stranger if she didn’t get it.

Sadly, there’s no word that HBO is going to tape the show, so it looks like those of us outside the United States will be left wishing we could say goodbye in person to the greatest diva in TV history. Hacks: that’s as far as we go.
