Halo reportedly has up to 15 studios on its next campaign

Microsoft’s next Halo game is reportedly in development, with early reports pointing to a project tentatively titled Campaign Evolved and involving as many as 15 studios.

Those same reports describe Halo Studios, the team formerly known as 343 Industries, as something closer to a central management hub under Pierre Hintze. The idea, reportedly, is to outsource heavily so the company can move faster, bring in teams with specific strengths, and handle the sheer scale of a modern AAA game. The reports also say future Halo projects are expected to move from Slipspace to Unreal Engine 5, following Halo Infinite’s delayed and heavily criticized development, plus the slow pace of its post-launch updates.

There’s more. According to the reports, Microsoft has also talked about bringing in Activision-owned Sledgehammer Games for possible Halo work, potentially on a multiplayer-focused project. That would line up with Sledgehammer’s background in Call of Duty, ongoing live-service support, and large-scale multiplayer development.

If you care about Halo, you can see why this has people talking. Some fans will look at it and see a faster release schedule and more room for different kinds of Halo games. Others are going to worry about the series losing its identity, quality bouncing around from project to project, and Halo not really feeling like Halo anymore.

For now, though, there’s nothing to download and nothing official to point to. Microsoft and Halo Studios haven’t publicly confirmed the 15-studio claim, the talks with Sledgehammer Games, or any project that’s actually been greenlit, even if the reports give a pretty clear sense of where Xbox may want to take the series next.
