Perhaps one of the best reasons to subscribe to Hulu, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a spooky near-future imagining of what might happen if the world were suddenly faced with the one-two punch of a global fertility crisis and a rise in religious fundamentalism. It can be tough to watch, but it’s increasingly relevant in today’s political climate.

Season 2 ended with Serena Waterford reading from the Bible in front of Gilead’s leaders and getting her finger cut off for it. Emily shoved Aunt Lydia down the stairs. Nick’s assigned wife Eden was executed for running off with another man. With Serena’s blessing, June/Offred ran off with her daughter, handing her off to an escaping Emily, then turning back to Gilead.
