Haribo was founded in Germany on December 13, 1920. That is why it is now a whopping 102 years old. And during all this time it has fooled us with the flavor of the green-flavored gummy bear.

A post that has appeared on Reddit shows a Haribo bag that identifies the flavor of each bear by its color.

And while most consumers would associate the green bear with a green apple, lime or even watermelon flavor, the reality is that this bear tastes like… strawberry.

And if that wasn’t enough, they also learned that Hans Riegel, who founded the company in 1920, named Haribo after the first two letters of his first name, his last name and the city where he was born, namely Bonn, Germany.

But it is the surprising taste of the green gummy bear that has caused a sugar rush on social networks as we can see below:

“Twenty years of life and only now have I realized that the green Haribo jelly bean is strawberry flavored.” “No one has asked, but the flavor of green Haribo jelly beans is strawberry and I find it misleading.” “Am I the only one who didn’t know that green Haribo jelly beans are strawberry flavored and not lime?”, we have Twitter up to the top with these questions from fans.

But here comes the twist that no one saw coming: the green strawberry-flavored teddy bear only occurs in the United States. In England, Germany or Spain, the green teddy bear is for apple flavor. Why? Because we have to be normal.

In this way, Americans have discovered that they live in a simulation or a lie, where the color green represents the taste of strawberries, while the rest of the world keeps the color red to reflect the taste of strawberries.

We do not know if it is a cultural issue or because they do not like acidic flavors like apple, but the reality is that this discovery is ruining the lives of millions of American Haribo fans.
