Hearthstone Battlegrounds gets Aberrations: Patch 36.6.1 arrives September 22

Blizzard says Hearthstone Battlegrounds is getting Patch 36.6.1 on September 22, and the big addition is Aberrations, a new minion type tied to Reign of the Black Empire.

In Battlegrounds, these Old God-themed minions get stronger when they die. Those deaths also build toward a Deity effect, and Blizzard says players will randomly start with either C’Thun or Y’Shaarj. That opens up death-trigger and discard lines, dedicated death comps, and menagerie builds that look riskier and more explosive than a standard tribe.

Hearthstone lead designer Mitchell Loewen says the idea is to keep both individual games and whole seasons from feeling too similar. Naga is rotating out for now. Drest’agath and Kith’ix are coming in as new heroes. Reign of the Black Empire arrives October 20 with Assemble, which lets you merge two cards. The Journey will tie expansions, events, and the story together. Then Monk shows up in March 2027 as Hearthstone’s first new class in six years.

If you play Battlegrounds regularly, this looks like an update worth jumping into, though Blizzard says the Naga change is seasonal and could still shift based on feedback.

Blizzard’s timeline is pretty clear: Patch 36.6.1 hits Hearthstone on September 22, and the Reign of the Black Empire expansion follows on the usual Hearthstone platforms on October 20.
