Liquid Swords, the new studio founded by Christofer Sundberg, known for his work on the Just Cause saga and the development of Mad Max, has released its first game, ‘Samson’, on Steam.

However, the reception has been quite cold, with only 54% of positive reviews on the platform and a score of 48 out of 100 on Metacritic. The most common criticisms focus on the numerous bugs and the inconsistent performance of the game, developed with Unreal Engine 5, which Sundberg has described as ‘unacceptable’.

The new game Samson receives a cold reception from players

As the game has been received with skepticism, Sundberg has emphasized the seriousness of the situation, pointing out that the failure of ‘Samson’ could mean the end of Liquid Swords, as well as his own career.

However, the team has not been idle and has already announced that they are working on a significant patch that will address various issues, including performance improvements and bugs related to audio and animation collisions.

The update, which will be available this Friday, will also include solutions to progress issues in missions and the welcome inclusion of up to eight save files.

Sundberg has assured that they are actively listening to the community’s feedback to deliver the best version of the game possible, after years of development.

It is a crucial moment for Liquid Swords, as the studio has faced significant challenges, including a round of layoffs in 2025, which forced a reduction in the project’s ambition.

Now, the direction that ‘Samson’ takes and the audience’s response will be decisive not only for the future of the studio but also for Sundberg’s professional trajectory.
