The world of role-playing video games (CRPG) continues to expand with the recent release of Banquet for Fools, an ambitious creation by a team of just two people. This game has reached version 1.0, incorporating new features, maps, characters, and customization options.
Acclaimed for its influences from titles like Planescape: Torment, Banquet for Fools is characterized by a dark and surreal tone, taking us to a colonial island where chaos reigns after the mysterious disappearance of the inhabitants of a farm.
A tremendously unique and interesting game
The combat in Banquet for Fools combines real-time elements with pause, reminiscent of typical role-playing games from the Baldur’s Gate era, while the characters are built and animated using claymation techniques, adding a unique touch to the visual design.
Unlike many conventional CRPGs, there are no quest markers; players must explore and engage in dialogue with NPCs to progress, which adds a component of immersion and creativity in decision-making.
One of the most intriguing features is the skill-based decision system that allows players to choose between eliminating or capturing enemies during combat. Those who are captured can be sent to a penal colony, which affects the player’s reputation, creating a dynamic narrative that transforms based on the choices made. Additionally, players can accumulate gold for their captures, but they must be careful, as innocent people could lead them into trouble.
With a launch price of €19.50 and an additional 15% discount (€16.57) available until March 19, Banquet for Fools presents itself as an accessible option for genre enthusiasts, offering a unique experience that blends exploration, interaction, and combat in a dark environment. This title, which seems to promise freshness in the narrative of CRPGs, is on the horizon as a game that deserves the attention of fans.
