One of the most successful iOS jailbreakers, iH8sn0w, announced on Twitter that he’s found a flaw allowing him to jailbreak any iOS device with an A5(X) chip for life, regardless of iOS updates.
iH8sn0w has refused to make the exploit public, or explain it in any detail, saying he’s saving it for future jailbreaks. Making his knowledge public would give Apple a better chance of blocking it, although iH8sn0w does say his exploit is ‘for life’, so that seems a weak excuse. The A5(X) chip runs the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 andt 3, Apple TV 3G, iPod Touch 5G and iPad mini.
The hacker says it’s better to keep his discovery secret for future jailbreaks. All we know is the exploit was found in iBoot, which runs Recovery Mode in iOS. A ‘jailbreak for life’ would not be popular at Apple, who currently close exploits found by jailbreakers like iH8sn0w in updates to iOS.
