Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 6.1 could be released this week. The final beta version (Golden Master) is expected today, and going on previous experience, this will be quickly followed by the official release.

Traditionally Apple has rolled out iOS updates on Tuesday or Wednesday, and we wouldn’t expect iOS 6.1 to be any different.

iOS 6.1 isn’t a very exciting update, with mostly minor changes (bug fixes, security patches and a new volume button design). You’ll be able to buy movie tickets with Siri via Fandango, and iCloud security will be enhanced. If you were disappointed by iOS 6, this update won’t be the revolution you’re looking for. However, now Google Maps is once again available for iOS, there is little to complain about!

The updated iOS 6.1, will be compatible with the iPhone 3G S and later models, the second, third and fourth generation iPads, the iPad mini, and iPod touch fourth and fifth generation.
