EA’s Motive Studios confirms Iron Man collaboration with Marvel Entertainment

We’ve been waiting for a new IM game since Iron Man 3 on mobile. EA is a behemoth entity that has been acquiring smaller video game companies since 1987 and, at the present time, has bought out 39 video game developers spread over 7 continents. However, this news comes from a studio that was founded within EA instead of being bought by the entity. EA’s Motive Studios is working on a project we’ve suspected for a while, a partnership with Marvel Entertainment that will result in an Iron Man game.

The confirmation comes from none other than EA itself, which announced the move in a press release on its website recently. From the press release, we can see that the Iron Man game is going to be a single-player experience shot in the third person. The game will rest in the action-adventure genre and is currently in early development in Montreal under the stewardship of Canada-based Motive Studios.

The fact that EA has explicitly stated that this is going to be a single-player game will likely draw a sigh of relief from many who remember Square Enix’s attempt at a multiplayer Marvel game; The Avengers. Luckily, this doesn’t seem to be something that we’ll be seeing attempted any time again soon.

EA continues to say: ‘The team is being led by Olivier Proulx, who brings experience working on past Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is joined by a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans including Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio.’ This is pivotal as Proulx is an incredibly decorated individual in terms of game development, especially where Marvel games are concerned.

In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy, another game whose development he led – this time for Eidos Montreal – was in the running for 2021’s Game of the Year. This calmed the nerves that had been shattered after the Avengers fiasco. The fact that he is heading up the Iron Man project tells us how much faith both Marvel and EA have in this game, which instills faith in the prospective players.

In other EA news, The Sims 4 base game is free from the 18th of October. Some are speculating that this means the release of the Sims 5 is imminent. EA has, however, explicitly stated that The Sims 4 still has years of life ahead of it, so this is unlikely. But the waters are churning over at EA HQ in California, and something big is definitely coming.
