Jonathan Majors has been Marvel Studios‘ biggest gamble in tailoring its entire new post-Endgame universe. After bringing the Thanos arc to an end with the film that became the most-watched movie in history – although the Avatar re-release dropped it to second place – Kevin Feige put it all on a new name: Kang.

As we saw in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, this new multiversal villain is the key to the future wars that Marvel’s superheroes will face. However, the actor chosen for the role has gone wrong: Jonathan Majors. But what exactly happened?

Jonathan Majors arrested for assaulting a woman

Last Saturday, Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York on alleged charges of strangulation, assault and harassment in the context of a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. The events occurred in an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, where police responded to a 911 call.

The victim reported to officers that she had been assaulted, and after examination, was transported to a nearby hospital with minor head and neck injuries in stable condition. Police arrested Majors without incident and held him in police custody until the evening of the same day, at which time he was released.

A representative for the actor has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing on Majors’ part and hopes that the situation will be cleared up to clear his name. The investigation into the events is still open, and it is expected that in the coming weeks the matter will be clarified.

Still, the incident has generated controversy in the film world and on social media. In the meantime, neither Marvel nor the other production companies in which he is involved have said anything, pending a thorough investigation to clarify the facts.

All against Majors

If revealed to be true, this utterly intorelable act will spell the end of his career or, at the very least, his most anticipated roles. Considering that Marvel already kicked James Gunn out of the studio (momentarily) for tweets from over a decade ago, it’s clear that his dealings with Majors should be even more forceful.

Furthermore, as soon as the news has come out, voices have begun to emerge that the actor’s erratic behavior is not just now, but something that many in the industry already knew about. The following thread summarizes some of these statements:

It is unclear whether he will suffer the same fate as Ezra Miller – who eventually kept his role as The Flash because the film was already shot – or if, as it seems, Majors will have to make room for another actor to play Kang. We’ll soon find out.
