Kaiju No. 8 could be Crunchyroll’s answer to Solo Leveling in 2025

Kaiju No. 8 has turned into one of Crunchyroll’s big action series in 2025. That’s true even with Solo Leveling putting up huge numbers: it became the first title on Crunchyroll to pass 1 million user ratings and ranked as the platform’s most popular anime worldwide in Q1 2025, according to Crunchyroll.

It’s not hard to see why Solo Leveling blew up. The fights are slick, the animation looks premium, and Sung Jinwoo is built around a straight-up power fantasy. It also arrived at the right moment, with Korean entertainment reaching wider audiences and the original web novel and manhwa already bringing in a massive fanbase.

Kaiju No. 8 hits a lot of those same beats. It has big monster action, strong production values, and a premise you get right away. But it also has more humor, more warmth, and more room for its world to breathe.

If you’re looking for a shonen series with a little more balance, Kaiju No. 8 is an easy pick. Kafka Hibino is a rare 32-year-old lead, a failed kaiju cleanup worker who gets a late shot at becoming something more. He survives on persistence, experience, and practical kaiju knowledge, not pure dominance.

It’s also the stronger ensemble, and that’s showing up in the business side too. By September 2025, the manga had more than 19 million copies in circulation. A second season and a compilation movie arrived in 2025, while Solo Leveling is still widely expected to continue with a movie and probably a third season around 2027 or 2028.

You can watch both series on Crunchyroll.
