Kevin Faige feels “like a total failure” for not being able to get the new MCU movie off the ground

Kevin Feige, Disney’s leader in everything having to do with the MCU, appeared on Happy Sad Confuse, taking advantage of the release of the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to speak about what he considers his biggest failure in superhero movies. And to no one’s surprise, it’s the Blade movie.

Declaring that “I feel like an enormous loser and a total failure for not being able to make the project happen with Mahershala,” he hasn’t given any new details about the project, which has been stalled for years. And it seems that that’ll remain the case for the foreseeable future. Because apparently, neither Disney nor Marvel are very clear on what to do with the character or with the movie, which has already gone through several directors and screenwriters.

Announced in 2019, Blade was going to star Mahershala Ali, known for his excellent work in The Hunger Games, Moonlight, and Swan Song, the movie has run into all kinds of development problems causing repeated delays to this day. This has left the movie on an indefinite hiatus from which we don’t even know if it’ll ever emerge.

Feige told Variety that “you can start with a good script and turn it into a great script during production, but we didn’t feel confident about being able to do that on ‘Blade.’ We didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and we didn’t want to do that to ourselves,” it seems there are structural problems with the movie. But Ali sums it up forcefully in his latest comments on the issue: “I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready”.
