Kingdom Hearts is heading towards its conclusion and the reason is clear

Kingdom Hearts is one of those series that doesn’t seem like it will ever have an end. With a story that has expanded across different media and all kinds of consoles and titles, to the point of being impossible to follow, it is so long-lasting that it doesn’t seem like it will have a conclusion. Something that doesn’t necessarily have to be true. Because as its main director has expressed, the idea is for the game to conclude sooner rather than later.

In a recent interview for Young Jump magazine, creator Tetsuya Nomura has been talking about his work on the Kingdom Hearts series. Among other details, without wanting to delve into spoilers, he said something that caught many people by surprise. According to the Japanese creative, Kingdom Hearts 4 is being developed with the intention of becoming the end of the saga.

Or it will be at some point in the future. Something that has been clarified in the interview is that Kingdom Hearts is not going to end with its fourth installment. The franchise will continue after this title, but this is where the foundations will be laid for what will eventually be the end of the series. This has surprised fans, as they did not expect Kingdom Hearts to have an end on the horizon. Not even considering that it is a franchise with 22 years behind it.

Even more surprising has been the reason why this is happening. The fact that Tetsuya Nomura wants to retire. Although he has stated that it is not something he wants to do immediately, it is something he has thought about doing in the future. And without knowing if he will conclude his career or Kingdom Hearts first, he would at least like to leave everything tied up so that the conclusion of the franchise can be satisfactory. This is not at all absurd, considering that Nomura is currently 53 years old and will turn 54 on October 8. A more than reasonable age to start making retirement plans.

That is why it is expected that Kingdom Hearts 4 will give us many more answers than we anticipated. Although the franchise has been characterized by the opposite, it seems that we will finally be able to start seeing more clearly everything it wants to tell us—and start seeing light at the end of the horizon. While that does not mean the end is near, it does mean we are approaching a point of no return for Kingdom Hearts.
