Apple TV+ is at a peak moment in production. The streaming platform continues on its path to compete with Netflix and other giants with its own productions, and it has already secured the domain of the best science fiction series for this purpose. However, its bets are much more diverse, and one of the most interesting ones has been “Lessons in Chemistry”.

Starring Brie Larson, the star of Captain Marvel who won the Oscar for Best Leading Actress for Room, the series has become a great success thanks to its 1950s setting, its trendy cooking theme inspired by The Bear, and its dramedy narrative tone that allows Larson to shine. Inside the trailer:

A series that celebrates the role of female chefs (and scientists)

“Lessons in Chemistry” introduces Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), a woman with scientific aspirations who, due to the era she lives in (the 1950s), has to set aside her dream of becoming a great chemist because of the demands of the patriarchal society she resides in. After being fired from the laboratory, she accepts a job as a television presenter for a cooking show and takes on the task of teaching ignored housewives (and the men who now pay attention) much more than just recipes.

In the style of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Lessons in Chemistry” presents a story of female empowerment through a strong and charismatic protagonist. Undoubtedly, the best part of the show is its leading lady, with Larson delivering a compelling performance and guiding the entire series on the right path. There is no doubt that this will be a series remembered for a long time… and it will likely have more seasons.
