Lanterns season 2 is still unconfirmed: HBO renewal buzz is already building

Lanterns season 2, if HBO and DC Studios decide to move forward with it, still hasn’t been officially greenlit. Even so, the renewal talk is already getting pretty loud.

Aaron Pierre has said the cast is “at peace” if John Stewart’s story ends with one season. Kyle Chandler, though, says he’s very optimistic, and reports say a writers’ room is already working through ideas for more episodes.

One of the headline projects in DC Studios’ Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, the eight-episode HBO crime drama follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart from a murder investigation on Earth into a much larger mystery connected to the DCU.

Lanterns comes from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. Lindelof has also said there’s “a lot of runway” for future seasons, and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner gives the series a direct link to Superman.

Reports say Lanterns brought in 9.3 million viewers in its first three days, which makes it the biggest DC Studios series premiere on HBO Max so far. J. Alphonse Nicholson and Jasmine Cephas Jones have already said they want a second season so the show can dig deeper into John Stewart’s family, so if you’re following DC’s new era, this is one to keep an eye on.
