GTAIf Grand Theft Auto VI was the reasons why you were holding onto your Xbox One, it might be time to let it go.

According to a recent leak posted on Reddit, GTA VI will be available on next-gen consoles only. Remember, this is a “leak” so it might not be 100% true, so read at your own risk.

This is a bit disconcerting due to the lack of information about the next Xbox and the next PlayStation. The next Xbox, called “Project Scarlett,” was teased at E3.  However, we don’t know anything about the console other than its ominous name. Sony gave us a little insight into the graphics capabilities of the next PlayStation, but we still don’t know much.

A new GTA is huge. Fans of the series are so devoted to the series that they will buy a new console just to play that single game. If the game will only be available for the next-gen consoles that we know nothing about, then that probably means we won’t see GTA-VI for a few years. Given that GTA V is already about six years old, it stinks that we will have to wait even longer for the next game.

What else was leaked?

Inspired by ‘Narcos’

Narcos

According to the leak, the game will take place in the ’70s and ’80s, and will be heavily influenced by the show “Narcos.”

Taking influence from movies and shows isn’t out of place for GTA. Remember the “No Country for Old Men” reference in GTA V?

Supposedly, you will be playing as a drug lord who is bringing cocaine from South American countries. The game is also set to dive into some of the heavy issues of the time such as the AIDS crisis and immigration. Players will be journeying back to Vice City in this adventure, and you’ll be traversing a new area based on Rio de Janeiro. You will be working with a young Martin Madrazo who gives you missions to perform hits on rival gangs. Do you remember Madrazo from GTA V? He had his wife stolen by Trevor!

The ’70s-’80s timeframe will affect the entire game. Vehicles will be from the era, as well as the music you listen to on the radio.

Similarities to Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead 2

Players won’t be able to keep an arsenal of weapons on them like in previous Grand Theft Auto games. Instead, you will stow weapons elsewhere, and access them later. Think about Red Dead Redemption 2 where you stowed weapons on your horse.

Just like Red Dead Redemption 2, the weather will be playing a big factor. Hurricanes, floods, and thunderstorms will affect the story and gameplay. Just like how Arthur Morgan suffered hardships while on a boat during a thunderstorm, we can expect storms playing a factor while you deliver drugs overseas.

Bully 2 is also on the horizon

Although GTA VI is Rockstar’s main focus at the moment, developers are also working on Bully 2. It has been more than a decade since the first Bully came out, and fans have been begging for a sequel. Although we don’t have a lot of details for Bully 2, the leak said that the game will star Jimmy Hopkins from the original Bully as he makes his way through college.

Wrapping up

The news about Bully 2 and the influence from “Narcos” is all very enticing. At the end of the day, it’s GTA, so we are going to buy it no matter what. That being said, we are going to need some more details the next Xbox and PlayStation before we know which one of those we plan on buying. Until then, there are plenty of fun things to do in GTA V while we wait.
