Lilo & Stitch unveils new sequel poster: Angel teased, but no new movie this year

Disney just showed off new sequel artwork for Lilo & Stitch, the live-action follow-up to the remake that opened on May 23, 2025. The next movie is headed to theaters on May 26, 2028, and the new image puts Angel, also known as Experiment 624, right at the center. That was enough to get people talking online.

So no, this doesn’t mean there’s a surprise new movie arriving this year. What you’re seeing is the live-action follow-up to Disney’s May 23, 2025 remake, now dated for May 26, 2028, not a separate 2026 or 2027 release.

If you’ve followed this franchise for a while, Angel’s arrival means something. Disney teased her at D23, and fans of the animated series know her best as Stitch’s love interest. Bringing her into the live-action sequel points to a movie that’s reaching further into the larger mythology, especially after the first film made more than $1 billion worldwide, according to box office tallies, and helped lift the 2002 original on Disney+, according to Disney.

Disney says Maia Kealoha is expected to return as Lilo. Chris Sanders is back as Stitch and is also attached to direct. Dean Fleischer Camp’s 2025 remake also featured Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, and Billy Magnussen. That movie caught heat from some fans over its ending and Pleakley’s design, but Disney is clearly treating Lilo & Stitch as a live-action franchise with something for nostalgic viewers and for people coming to it fresh.
