sq.jpgWant to listen to your iTunes library at work but don’t have an MP3 player? You can still create a stream of your music library using the SlimServer application (available for PC or Mac). This free software allows you to play any MP3 player on a network. It’s easy to set up and run, straight from its web interface in your browser.

Here’s how to set up SlimServer to create your iTunes stream. Open up the application and in your browser type http://localhost:9000/ to access the SlimServer web interface. Set up the application according to your needs and make sure to add a login and password if you want to keep it private. Now in iTunes go to Advanced>Open Stream… and enter http://1.2.3.4:9000/stream.mp3 with 1.2.3.4 as your IP address. Normally after a little moment you’ll be able to see and browse all your music library from the SlimServer interface. To access it from work make sure your home computer is set up and connected and that iTunes is launched. Now all you have to do is access your stream url to enjoy your music away from home. Voila!
