Little House on the Prairie on Netflix hits No. 2 in 24 hours

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reboot premiered on July 9, 2026, and it hit No. 2 on the streamer’s U.S. chart within 24 hours. This version doesn’t recreate the 1974 TV series scene by scene. It goes back to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s stories and plays them as a family drama and a survival story, centered on the Ingalls family as they settle the late-19th-century frontier. Early reviews have been strong, which suggests the Little House name still has plenty of pull.

Westerns are already connecting on streaming through shows like Yellowstone and Dark Winds, so Netflix’s move makes sense. The company renewed Little House on the Prairie for season 2 in March 2026, before season 1 had even premiered. That’s an early show of confidence, especially for a period drama, where costs run higher and production tends to be more complicated.

Alice Halsey, Luke Bracey, and Crosby Fitzgerald lead Little House on the Prairie as Laura, Charles “Pa,” and Caroline “Ma” Ingalls. Rebecca Sonnenshine serves as showrunner and comes to the series after work on The Boys and The Vampire Diaries. The reboot also widens the frame to include Black homesteaders, members of the Osage tribe, a larger role for Dr. George Tann, and an Osage family storyline.

If you follow streaming Westerns, Little House on the Prairie looks like it’s worth checking out. That’s still the case even with Karen Grassle arguing that the original experience couldn’t be recreated without Michael Landon. If you want to watch it, the series is streaming on Netflix now.
