M3gan has become the first great horror movie success of this year. Gerard Johnstone’s film has been the umpteenth to bring us a murderous Artificial Intelligence, and although we still have to wait to find a doll like her in reality, Universal and Blumhouse are already working on its sequel.

As reported in Variety, M3gan 2 will arrive in 2025. The original screenwriter of the tape, Akela Cooper, is working on the new script, and her intention is to have it during this year to film the next one and release the next one. If the plans go ahead, the premiere will be planned for January 17, 2025, so it could once again become a new horror bet for the winter season.

No wonder this decision was made. Since its debut on January 6, the film has become a huge success. M3gan has raised over $100 million (and counting) worldwide, multiplying its investment of $12 million tenfold.

What will M3gan 2 be like?

At the moment, it is not clear if Johnstone will return to direct or if Amie Donald or Jenna Davis, the actresses who gave life to M3gan (in body and voice, respectively) will return. In fact, it is not even clear if M3gan will be the protagonist again or if they will throw for a new Artificial Intelligence toy. The first film had a very clear closure in which it does not seem like a place for a resurrection… but we already know that in terror nothing is written.

What is clear is that, knowing the success that the film has had beyond the cinema, going viral on TikTok, Twitter and other platforms, I don’t think they are interested in changing it in its sequel. There will be more M3gan, and maybe soon he will reach the fame of other terrifying dolls like Chucky.
