The expected iOS 17 is approaching its official presentation, and the leaks are not long in coming. So far, they have been appearing in dribs and drabs, but the pace has changed, and a lot. The latest leak comes from the same account on Weibo that unveiled the iPhone 14 in yellow ahead of its release, and while their track record is not impeccable when it comes to rumors, the details of the changes planned for iOS 17 are more than interesting.

Several changes in many parts of the system

iOS 17 is expected to include new features and changes to the lock screen, Apple Music, the App Library and Control Center. The changes would not be revolutionary, but quite significant improvements. Recall that it is rumored that the main focus of iOS 17 will be to improve the stability and performance of the system.

Concept created by @aapple_lab

One of the new features expected in iOS 17 is the ability to change the font size on the lock screen. This feature would allow further customization of the experience. In addition, it is rumored that iOS 17 will include the option to share lock screen settings with others, which could facilitate collaboration and the discovery of new designs very much along the lines of what we can already do with Apple Watch watch faces.

As for Apple Music, a new, more intuitive and attractive user interface is expected to be introduced. An interesting feature would be the ability to display song lyrics on the lock screen, allowing us to enjoy our favorite tracks and follow the lyrics without unlocking the device or opening the app. In addition, the Control Center will also undergo changes, such as the incorporation of a slider to adjust the intensity of the flashlight brightness, allowing us to adapt it to our needs in different situations.

Finally, the iOS 17 App Library is expected to allow us to rename app folders according to our preferences. This feature would facilitate the organization and access to applications, offering a more personalized experience tailored to the needs of each user.

To this we have to add that Mark Gurman already commented last week, that iOS 17 will improve the Search and Wallet applications, although he did not give more details about it. What he did give details about is the possible inclusion of new functions related to health.

And a strong focus on health

According to Gurman, the Health app will be available for the first time on the iPad, allowing health metrics to be viewed on a larger screen. In addition, an emotion tracking feature will be introduced, allowing us to record mood and view results over time. This feature, Gurman clarifies, will be separate from the diary app we were talking about a few days ago.

Here, it should be noted that Gurman specifies that, although we initially expected the diary app to be focused on health, the truth is that the focus is different. According to the Bloomberg reporter, this app will be an extension of the Search service. Something with which Apple seeks to expand the social capabilities of the service.

Returning to the Health app, this will also include new functions for managing vision conditions, something very useful thinking about the future augmented reality helmet that, among others, will include a meditation app.

As if this were not enough, it is expected that next year Apple will launch a health coaching service based on artificial intelligence that currently goes by the name of Quartz. This service will personalize exercise, diet and sleep recommendations using data collected from Apple Watch sensors and our other devices. A way to put value and make sense of the metrics we collect on a daily basis that can make the difference between a monitoring and coaching device or service.

Gurman cautions, however, that the health coaching service and the other features could be “cancelled or postponed” without notice. In any case, but it’s clear that Apple is looking to evolve its health offerings in a way that only Apple seems to know how to do.

Apple will officially announce iOS 17 at the Worldwide Developers Conference. WWDC 2023 on June 5. Subsequently, we expect the first beta version to be available to developers right after that, while the public beta version would arrive in July. The official release of the update should be in September, coinciding with the launch of the new iPhone 15.

In the meantime, this leak, the biggest about iOS 17 so far this year, gives us an idea of what we could expect from the new operating system. In any case, let’s always take rumors with caution until Apple officially confirms the new features and changes. That said, it is clear that we are in for a busy few weeks.
