Marvel has completely changed course in one of the most unexpected turns in its history

For years, Marvel has been synonymous with cinematic fun, superheroes, movies, shows, and A-list actors putting on tights, but… has anyone thought about the comics at all? Because they’ve kept coming out nonstop, having hits from time to time but, in general, living in an unusual lull for a company given to constant plot twists. The culprit? Well, as many point out, its director, C. B. Cebulski.

After 9 years in charge, Cebulski has finally taken a step back and left the position to one of the most promising comics strategists in the world: Stephen Wacker has become the new editor-in-chief. Back in the day, he was already involved in that whole DC hullabaloo around 52, but he also oversaw the Brand New Day era and Superior Spider-Man and has played a key role in the best modern runs of Daredevil, Captain Marvel, and Hawkeye, as well as helping create Ms. Marvel.

So yes: fans are right to expect an earthquake as soon as he settles into the position. After a decade of missteps, it was time to reclaim its place in the industry, which DC had been slowly taking away from it. “I truly believe that Marvel’s best comics are still ahead of us, and I can’t wait to add new floors to the House of Ideas”, he said. Stan Lee would be very proud.

Meanwhile, Cebulski is going to Asia, to coordinate the Marvel comics released there, a role that until now didn’t exist and that they’ve created expressly for him so as, basically, not to leave him out in the cold. Although over the next year we’ll see the last of Cebulski’s legacy, with the launch of the Midnight universe, we all hope, at last, to be True Believers again.
