Marvel’s Nova movie finally moves forward: Michael Waldron is attached to write

Marvel Studios’ Nova movie is finally moving ahead, bringing one of Marvel’s most requested cosmic heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after years of rumors, stalled versions, and false starts.

The project also plays like a payoff that’s been sitting there for a long time. Guardians of the Galaxy introduced Xandar and the Nova Corps back in 2014, then Avengers: Infinity War revealed that Thanos destroyed Xandar off-screen. That fits Richard Rider’s comic-book origin as the last surviving Nova Corps member, and it still gives Marvel Studios room to finally show that attack.

Michael Waldron is attached to write and could direct too. With Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness already on Michael Waldron’s résumé, it’s easy to see why Nova now looks like a serious feature-film turn after those earlier Disney+ and special-presentation versions linked to Sabir Pirzada.

If you follow Marvel Studios’ cosmic side, this is one to keep an eye on. After 12 years of setup, Nova could end up anchoring Phase 7 after Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel Studios still has to pick between Richard Rider and Sam Alexander, and most of the villain talk still points to Annihilus.

There’s no release date yet, but Nova still looks far more likely to arrive as a theatrical Marvel Cinematic Universe movie than a streaming release.
