Two patches have been released for Windows 8.1 to fix installation problems some users faced with the recent update.
The latest Windows 8.1 update introduces a host of changes and improvements to the operating system, and is obligatory if you want to get future updates. However, some users got an error code “0x800f081f” during installation, while others were unable to uninstall IIS (Internet Information Services) after installing the OS update. Both of these have been fixed with new patches by Microsoft.
The patches, like the Windows 8.1 update, can only be applied to users with Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. You can get these fixes from Windows Update.
Some users on the Microsoft Answers forum still say they have problems, and others have suggested an unofficial fix. However, if you are still having difficulty applying the new Windows 8.1 update, it’s advisable to wait for Microsoft to make an official patch, especially as it has already responded very quickly to these early problems.
The recent Windows 8.1 update made some concessions to users without touchscreens, like starting up directly in the classic desktop, and making the modern interface more mouse friendly.
