Microsoft is playing catch-up, implementing security measures that other companies like Google have had for a while.
Outlook.com and OneDrive will finally use Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS). This security protocol uses unique encryption keys for every connection, making it difficult for hackers to decrypt intercepted messages.
Outlook.com is also increasing its use of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) when communicating with other mail systems. TLS ensures communications stay private by making servers perform a “handshake” to exchange encryption keys before sending any data. You’ll notice other sites like Google already use TLS by looking for “https” in the URL.
Tech companies like Microsoft are doubling down on security after a string of high profile hacks of Spotify, eBay, Snapchat, and many others.
