internet explorer 7 iconIf you’re running anything Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8, you’ll want to update your Windows computer immediately. Microsoft has announced today that they have issued a patch for a zero-day flaw that could allow PCs running older versions of IE to be hijacked. IE 9 and 10 are safe from exploit. Microsoft originally found this security flaw last month and offered a few steps for users to patch the program themselves.

Today’s patch will be pushed to all IE 6, 7, and 8 users without having to search for the patch themselves.

Users who have automatic updates enabled in Windows will get an alert to install the critical patch today. If you don’t want to wait, you can use Windows Update to look for the update. This is a good of a time as any to make sure you’re running the latest version of IE or switch to a browser like Firefox or Chrome.

Microsoft will also be holding a live webcast tomorrow where it will be answering any questions users may have about this exploit and its fix.
