There have been many attempts to recreate the success of Minecraft, and SkySaga: Infinite Isles is the latest. This one, however, has some heavyweight developers behind it, and its mix of massively multiplayer online role playing (MMORPG) and Minecraft could be a success. Watch the first trailer below.

The game is being created by the Oliver twins, veteran UK developers, and Korean company Smilegate. The Oliver twins created the puzzle platform series Dizzy in the 80s, and their new game takes Minecraft-like generated worlds and mixes them with an ‘endlessly evolving mulitplayer sandbox world.’

It does sound a lot like online multiplayer Minecraft. You’ll start in a safe ‘home’ and venture through a portal into adventure worlds, where you can do quests, mine for minerals, chop trees and plants, and so on. What you get through the portal you can bring back to your home to customize it and craft new items.

SkySaga: Infinite Isles will be free to play, with ‘optional’ micropayments. How ‘optional’ these turn out to be, we’ll have to wait and see.
