Minicraft – a tiny 256 byte Minecraft tribute

Minicraft is a 256 byte tribute to Minecraft. Created by French developer Matthieu “p01” Henri, it’s an animated video ‘flyby’ of a Minecraft-like environment.
Minicraft is not interactive, so while it is pretty, and impressively small, you can’t do anything with it. Coincidentally, in December 2011 Minecraft’s creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson also released a game called Minicraft. Developed for the 48 hour competition Ludum Dare, it was a top down 2D tribute to Minecraft. It doesn’t include building, but does have monsters you’ll recognize from Minecraft. Play Notch’s Minicraft here.
Matthieu “p01” Henri has also created Wolfenstein tributes, ‘Wolfensteiny’ and the ‘game’ WOLF1K, which is a tiny, playable 1K experiment. The developer’s passion is extreme size optimization, trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the fewest bytes of data. Check out more of p01’s micro creations on his website.
