These days, we’re surrounded by cinematic universes. Ever since Marvel Studios opened the floodgates, we’ve seen Star Wars expand, DC Comics doing what it can with its superheroes, and even John Wick has its own spin-offs. But what not many expected was for Godzilla, the mythical kaiju monster from Japan, to end up having its own cinematic universe.

This is something that Legendary has been carefully preparing. Since the studio released Kong: Skull Island in 2017, they have been releasing new films that depict a planet Earth inhabited by gigantic creatures. This was the case with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire. However, before this film, a separate installment of the Monsterverse arrived titled Monarch: the Legacy of the Monsters.

A series packed with action and monsters

“Monarch” is an Apple TV+ series that premiered on November 17 to great audience success. The series stars Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt. But perhaps the most interesting aspect is who is behind the production. Chris Black, the writer of “Invincible” and “Desperate Housewives,” has teamed up with comic book writer Matt Fraction to craft this fiction full of action, monsters, and adventure.

With a 10-episode season, the series is proving to serve as a bridge between the past and future of the Monsterverse, expanding the information about this world filled with colossal beasts. So far, critics have spoken highly of the series, with an 85% positive review rate and 89% audience support. Additionally, it complements perfectly with the rest of the fictions within this universe.

“Monarch” also serves to further expand the good reputation of Apple TV+ in terms of science fiction and fantasy. It joins top-tier series like “Silo” or “Foundation,” and everything indicates that its future will continue along this path.
