Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo is out now: PS5, Xbox Series and PC

Capcom has released the Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, and it gives players the opening section of Monster Hunter Wilds. In it, you can make a character, play through Chapter 1-3’s “To the Forest” mission, test all 14 weapon types, and carry your save over to the full game. The catch is that this demo build is solo-only, so the online features are left out.

If you’ve been curious about Monster Hunter Wilds, this is a good excuse to finally try it. Capcom says the full game launched on February 28, 2025 and became the company’s fastest-selling release, with more than 10 million copies sold in its first month. Before that, the October 2024 Steam beta had already pulled in more than 460,000 concurrent players. As the follow-up to Monster Hunter: World, Wilds adds a world that feels more connected, cross-platform play, and a fully voiced hunter.

A lot of the praise has gone to the refined mechanics, smoother onboarding, and the quality-of-life changes. At the same time, you’ve probably seen the arguments over performance, the lower difficulty, and the removal of Monster Hunter Language as a full voice option in favor of a more story-heavy presentation. Capcom has also already confirmed the 2027 expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, with a sky-based locale, Master Rank quests, Kushala Daora, and Lao-Shan Lung.
