Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the 2021 film directed by Simon McQuoid that adapted the famous video game, now has a release date. As officially announced by Warner Bros. Pictures, the feature film will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Therefore, we will still have to wait a little longer to see the continuation of this science fiction, dark fantasy, and above all, action-packed story.
The new movie has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the screenwriter for the Moon Knight series, from Disney Plus. Simon McQuoid, on the other hand, returns as director. And the biggest novelty of this sequel is the addition of Karl Urban, protagonist of The Boys, who will assume the long-awaited role of Johnny Cage.

The first movie, starring a new character named Cole Young (Lewis Tan), was released in theaters and on HBO in 2021, and despite the tough time the cinema was going through at that time, it grossed $42 million domestically and $83 million worldwide. Now, its sequel will aim to surpass those numbers, albeit with a higher budget.
