Netflix cancels the upcoming series by the Duffer brothers

The final episode of the hit series ‘Stranger Things’ has marked the end of a significant era for Netflix. The acclaimed series, created by the Duffer brothers, has been a staple on the platform since its launch, but its conclusion also coincides with a major change for its creators, who have decided to leave Netflix to join Paramount with the aim of developing films for the big screen.

In a recent announcement, the Duffer brothers confirmed that the adaptation project of the novel ‘The Talisman’, co-written by Stephen King and Peter Straub, is no longer in development at Netflix. This has generated uncertainty among fans who were looking forward to an adaptation of this work, which tells the epic quest of Jack Sawyer, a 12-year-old boy searching for a mystical object to save his sick mother. Ross Duffer mentioned in an interview that unfortunately, ‘The Talisman’ is no longer at Netflix, so we are not involved, adding that it was “probably naive of us to think we could get it off the ground.”

Published in 1984, ‘The Talisman’ was built as the cornerstone of a literary saga, which includes ‘Black House’, a sequel published in 2001, and an upcoming book that will conclude the trilogy, written by King after the passing of Peter Straub in 2022. Although the novel was not an immediate success, its legacy has endured, becoming a pillar in modern fantasy literature.

With the cancellation of this project and the Duffer’s move to Paramount, the industry may be watching how the future of content based on King’s works will be configured, while the creators of ‘Stranger Things’ pursue new horizons in the film industry.
